SUMMARY:Free Writing Workshop with Delaney Nolan!
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Parleaux Beer Lab for a free writing workshop with acclaimed local author Delaney Nolan on November 17 from 6-8pm \n\n\n\n\nTurn Off Your Work Brain: How to deepen your writing’s point of view with sensory language \nWhen we’re young\, we have wide-open eyes\, constantly observing and feeling the world. As we get older and have to navigate the world\, we’re encouraged to use a different kind of thinking: goal-oriented and information-heavy. That gets us external validation\, like success at work – but it’s not how we open the door to writing. For that\, we have to find a way to turn off our rational\, critical\, achievement-hungry mind\, and remember instead how to let our language be led by sensory impression and free association. In this generative workshop\, we’ll do just that\, with exercises that encourage you to deepen point of view using light\, clothing\, rooms\, food\, weather\, color\, and more. You know more than you know you do. \nThis workshop is suitable for new and experienced writers in fiction and poetry. \nDelaney Nolan is a novelist and journalist based in New Orleans. Her fiction has appeared in Electric Literature\, Guernica\, Oxford American\, Tin House\, and elsewhere\, and has been awarded a Pushcart Prize. Her debut novel\, HAPPY BAD\, was published by Astra House in 2025 \nBook Banter Books (@bookbanterbooks) will be on site for all your bookish needs\, and the drinks will be a-flowin thanks to our friends at @parleauxbeerlab \nSee y’all at Parleaux on November 17 ❤️
