Join us on the second floor of Turtle Bay (1113 Decatur) for a reading by the essayist, Janay Major. Open mic to follow, so bring your own work to read.
Janay Major is a New Orleans native with dual burning passions in community and writing. She attended Louisiana Tech for undergrad; however, it was her time in graduate school at the University of Holy Cross that solidified her return back to her writing passion. Strapped with the memories of family, community, and New Orleans, she began her journey writing Grand: A Micro Essay Collection in Dedication to My Maternal Grandmother. She is currently a writer for Where Y’at Magazine and recently released “Mardi Gras Unmasked: From the Exclusion of Members to the Inclusion of Diverse Krewes” for the March 2025 issue. Although she does her best to expand her writing style, Janay’s pen yearns to write short stories and micro essays.
